Tropical rain forests provide rich vegetation and a humid climate, which makes the Andaman and Nicobar Islands one of 218 Endemic Bird Areas of the world. Bird Life International recognizes this, too. There are a total of 280 species, of which 28 endemic species are found only in these islands.
Chidiya tapu in Port Blair , Mount Harriet, also in Port Blair, and Saddle Peak in Diglipur are among the popular bird watching sites but there are calls to hear and birds to see everywhere.
Andaman Teal, Kingfisher, Watercock, Black-naped Tern, Eastern Yellow Wagtail, Andaman Hawk Owl, Andaman Serpent Eagle, Andaman Drongo, Andaman Bulbul, Andaman Green-pigeon, Andaman Wood-pigeon, Andaman Flowerpecker, Andaman Coucal, Freckle-breasted Woodpecker, Long-tailed Parakeet, Vernal Hanging Parrot, Andaman Woodpecker, Andaman Cuckoo-dove, Common Hill Myna, White-bellied Sea Eagle, White-breasted Wood-Swallow, Grey Wagtail, Blue-eared Kingfisher are among the many birds to see as well as the Narcondum Hornbill and Nicobar Megapode which are found in the southern group of islands.
